Floral Embroidery Workshop at Wemyss School of Needlework - 24th May '25

Come join me for a creative half day at Wemyss School of Needlework! In this workshop, you'll learn a range of embroidery techniques and apply them to one of my floral designs.

10.30am - 2.30pm

This workshop is the perfect introduction to floral embroidery. You will learn a variety of stitch techniques that create lovely flowers, petals, leaves and stems to create one of my floral designs. During this relaxing 4 hour workshop, you will be introduced to a range of hand embroidery techniques. You will start work on a project, and be given the materials and instructions to complete this in your own time at home.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced stitchers alike. If you are a beginner, I will guide you through each stitch, how to thread your needle and load your hoop with fabric. Embroidery can be a calming, mindful practice, and so this workshop will be relaxed and informal.

No experience necessary - I will guide you every step of the way. All materials will be provided, just bring yourself and your creativity! Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn a new skill and meet fellow craft enthusiasts.

The Wemyss School of Needlework was founded in 1877 by Dora Wemyss, inspired by the Royal School of Needlework in London. The Royal School was set up to ‘revive a beautiful art’ while providing employment to ‘educated women’ who might otherwise struggle financially. The Wemyss School sought to teach a skill to local girls from which they would be able to earn a living.

The school now houses an important and unique collection, including items made at the school, of designs and textiles dating from the 17th century to contemporary pieces collected and donated by the Wemyss family, past pupils and their families and friends of the School.

Today, under the stewardship of Fiona Wemyss, the school thrives as a hub for enthusiasts and budding creatives with an eye for historic intrigue in a contemporary world. From unique archive inspired patterns, classes with internationally renowned teachers and materials to cater for all your needlework projects, The Wemyss School of Needlework continues to uphold the traditions set by Dora and preserves and catalogues the collection she started for her pupils.
